Travel Eligibility
Eligibility for overnight FRC tournaments is determined by the faculty & mentors. They will look at a student’s participation and contributions throughout the semester. All students are encouraged to attend local tournaments. Any student attending competitions is required to fill out a permission slip that will be provided by the faculty advisor prior to the trip. On any trip where a student will miss more than two days, a prearranged absence form must be filled out by the student, their guardians, and their teachers.
Payment
Overnight competitions will require team travel. Students will pay for all of their own travel to events, however students can earn discounts to overnight Pacific Northwest District competitions based on participation over the course of the year as laid out in the table below.
The discount will apply to the following items:
Hotel
Transportation
Lunch
Students will still be required to pay 100% for the following regardless of discount:
Breakfast (unless provided by hotel)
The team prioritizes hotels with included breakfast when booking travel, however there are circumstances when that is not available

Roles & Responsibilities
Prior to competition, students will be assigned to the drive team, pit crew, safety team, or scout team. It is essential that students contribute to their competition sub-team to the fullest. When at competition, students should not participate in activities not contributing to the team, such as homework, without express permission from a mentor. Students are encouraged to not congregate in front of the team pit, but to go and watch matches, meet other people, and look/learn from other teams' robots.
Behavior
When traveling with the Team, students are representing the team, TJHS, and Federal Way Public Schools. Students are expected to adhere to travel rules that will be communicated prior to competitions.
Behavior that is deemed below the standards of Team 4469 will result in a warning by a faculty advisor or adult mentor. Severe infractions and/or multiple warnings may result in an immediate flight or bus trip home at the expense of the team member, and/or dismissal from the team.
Overnight Travel
When traveling to overnight events, it is expected that students go with the team and participate in all team activities. If a student’s family attends the competition for any amount of time, the student is expected to remain with the team unless the following conditions are met:
Prior to leaving for the trip:
A signed note from the guardian stating that it is okay for the student to have dinner with the family member
The name and phone number of the family member has been provided
During the trip:
The family member checks in with either the lead mentor or faculty advisor prior to leaving the event with the student
The student will return to the team hotel by curfew and check in with the faculty advisor or lead mentor
These requirements are set due to the fact that the faculty advisor is still responsible for the student, even when with family members. Team mentors and faculty advisor reserve the right to, at any time, not allow a student to leave the event even with prior consent.
